Last time we saw that generosity is in your DNA. Now we all know that DNA is God’s programming language that made you…you. But maybe DNA doesn’t just stand for: deoxyribonucleic acid. DNA also stands for “Do Not Anxiously.”
There’s a passage in Isaiah where God says, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you.”(Isaiah 41:10) Giving is in your DNA, knowing that God is your God, and He will strengthen you and help you.
But DNA also stands for “Do Not Ask”. You may recognize that quote from James, where he says, “You do not have because you do not ask.” (James 4:2) And that’s the second piece to your giving DNA: to ask. Now God will strengthen you and help you. And when you need wisdom—Oh, for something like giving—just ask. Because giving IS in your DNA.
Now God’s generosity is everything and more than we can even ask or imagine. And although there should be no limits to our generosity, for those of us who live in the space-time continuum, there are limits to what we can give. But in the midst of this season of giving, the question is not whether you should give; rather, the question to ask is: to whom do you give? Which ministry? What cause?
You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully. (2 Corinthians 9:7)
Here’s one more reason to give. Christmas is not only THE season of giving, but it is the most JOYOUS season. And joy inspires us to give cheerfully, hilariously, and joyously.
So… whaddya gonna do about it?
