Broadcast Date: May 25, 2015

On Memorial Day we honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Today we do that. Joining Dr. Randy today on the program are Sven Olson, Angie Schum and Ron Leonard. Sven has a powerful story to tell of his challenges with PTSD, while Angie and Ron represent different, but very important and effective ministries to our service men and women.

On Facebook today: “In light of Jesus’ sacrifice for us, on this Memorial Day we want to honor those fallen heroes who have paid the price for our freedom in America. Please share with us someone you know who gave their all so we can be free.”

A Thought From the Intentional Living Center

vvmMemorial Day

By Steve Tanner, Senior Producer, Intentional Living

Our men and women of the US armed forces are spectacular in their service. And our men and women who have served in the past are equally commendable.

Think about the sacrifices of so many for so long to keep our country free

Think about the gift God gave we who live here when he prompted a little band of freedom-seeking pilgrims to venture out in search of a land that was free. And never forget that their motivation was not just for a better life for themselves but for the opportunity to expand the kingdom of God in His service by sharing His Good News.

Think about the sacrifices made by the underfed, under supplied, under trained, and underdog citizen-soldiers of the war for independence…

DECORATED_GRAVEThink about the sacrifices of those who fought brother on brother in the civil war…

Think about the sacrifices of the thousands who fought and the millions who were affected by the two World Wars…

Think about the brave men and women who serve today, separated from family by geography, but always close to the heart…

Think about those who have served and now serve to make and keep us free…

And think about the God who ordained all it to happen so that we who are here and free today can do as the first American settlers sought to do… share God’s love with a world in desperate need of Him.

“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” — John 15:13

Today’s Guests

svenSven Olson

Maj. Sven Olson  (Army Natl. Guard, Retired) Served many worldwide deployments in his military career. While serving in our military he endured temorary paralysis after a diving accident, threats of court marshall for his beliefs, divorce, and more. And Sven has a story about God’s grace through his suffering with PTSD.

Angie Ruth Schum: “Psalm 91: God’s Shield of Protection”

Psalm_91Angie Ruth Schum’s mother, Peggy Joyce Ruth, wrote a Bible study many years ago on the topic of Psalm 91, which begins, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” The study has blessed millions through the years. Today we focus on a Military edition and ministry that has grown from this classic study.

Protecting our country is a dangerous job. But there is a place in God–a secret place–for those who want refuge. Written specifically for military men and women and their loved ones, Psalm 91 Military Edition explains God’s covenant of refuge and hope using stories and testimonies that demonstrate His protection of soldiers.
