Peace and Possibilities

Questions and AnswersAnxiety and fear can cause paralysis, preventing upward mobility or forward progress – and that kind of thinking is never from God.

We hear from listeners every day who face situations such as these. Connie was miserable at work but turned down the offer of a position in a different department because she was afraid it could be even worse.

Joanie had been hurt in her past relationships. When Tom, a kind man from church asked her to join him for lunch, she was filled with anxiety as she pondered all the “what ifs…” then declined.

When anxiety is a significant factor in decision-making:

  • You deny yourself the possibility of a wonderful change.
  • Improvement and forward progress will be slowed or prevented.
  • Your judgment is clouded.

Recognizing that God is in control and you aren’t is the next thing moving you toward:

  1. Emotional freedom
  2. Maximized progress
  3. Holy boldness

“The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1 NIV)

God gives you His peace. Anxiety is the enemy of peace. Acknowledge God’s authority in your life and let go of the reigns. Don’t let fear stop you in your tracks or hold you hostage. Your increased joy and the blessing you may be to others hang in the balance.

You can overcome your fear, gain self-confidence and experience the peace of Christ.

  • I hated my job of 7 years. Day after day I prayed that God would make a way for me to find a job that used my skills and abilities, that I enjoyed and that paid a decent wage. God gave me peace when I quit to go back to college and I get a stipend.

  • I have always been afraid of being unable to support myself. I have so many ideas I want to promote in my career but am anxious about talking a leap of faith to see how these new ventures will work out due to my fear.
