Revealing Your Spiritual Heart

health_diet_goals_252.jpgThis time of year, most people are motivated to think about goal setting and making New Year’s resolutions. We hear a lot of talk about what people are planning to do.

How does what you do relate to your faith?

The Bible answers this question. It’s God’s Word, it's true and in Ephesians 2:8-9 He says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” (NIV 1984)

No one can earn salvation. And, while it is faith alone that saves, faith is never alone. Ephesians 2:10 continues, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (NIV 1984)

The way you live your life is an outgrowth or an indicator of your faith.

Living intentionally in Christ is one way to sort through the mess of clogged arteries that are feeding your spiritual heart. Doing the next right One Thing allows the blood to flow freely into your spiritual heart.

In 1 Corinthians 9:24-25, Paul writes:

“You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You're after one that’s gold eternally.” (The Message)

Paul is saying that physical training is good, but our bodies will end. Our spiritual heart, though, will never stop beating.

We are eternal, spiritual beings. That’s why your spiritual well-being is so vital, and why it’s so important to ask yourself, “What One Thing can I do in all areas of life to bring pleasure to Christ?” You’ll bring benefit to yourself as well.

Pray that question to the Lord, let Him reveal to you what’s in your spiritual heart that needs to change, then jot down what He tells you to do and start doing it
