David's Big Dream

Author: Rod Robison for Intentional Living

When my son David was three years old, I was tucking him into bed one night and we once again played the “what do you want to be when you grow up?” game that often accompanied tuck in time.  I wondered if tonight he would dream of being an NBA player or a fireman – two of his perennial favorites.  But this night David had an even higher goal in his sleepy little head.  “Daddy,” he asked innocently, “When I grow up can I be God?”  Although I love encouraging my children to take on lofty goals, I had to break the news to David that that particular job was already taken.

But how often do we grown ups act like we want to be our own God?  The Bible says, “The Earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.”  But we often act like some of the Earth is His and some of it’s ours.   In reality, God tells us that we are stewards and not owners of the money and possessions with which he entrusts us.  And acknowledging that reality is the first step toward being intentional with your finances.

I'd be interested in hearing from you about how you're being more intentional with your finances. Or the struggle you have trying to get there.  jen_david_252x252.jpg
